The body of a dead girl is carried by rescue workers away from the rubble a five-storey garment factory in Dhaka that collapsed, killing 23 people and injuring 100 more, in February 2006. On assignment elsewhere - covering a protest rally against the deaths in a recent fire tragedy - Abir and his colleagues received news of the building collapse and arrived to find hundreds of ordinary people carrying out rescues. Later, when the official rescue workers arrived, Abir came across a group trying to get a trapped person out alive. Some of his relatives had already died next to him. “It took two hours to rescue the man alive,” says Abir.
