Hot lava erupts from Mount Merapi as seen from Sleman, Yogykarta Province, Central Java, on the morning of May 19th 2006. People fled the slopes of the simmering mountain, unsure whether the volcano was set to erupt. Scientists said that the lava dome on top of the mountain was growing slowly and posed a risk to those living in its shadow. It did eventually erupt, killing two people who were trapped in a bunker.
